The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) launched a centrally-sponsored scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME), on June 29, 2020.
The PM FME scheme aims to empower, upgrade, and formalise the existing Micro Food Processing Enterprises (MFPEs) in the unorganised segment of the food processing industry by providing financial, technical, and business support.
In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, this scheme endeavours to provide a national market for local and regional products, generate employment, and bring economic stability to the people.
The MoFPI and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (Nafed) have entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) wherein Nafed is leveraging its branding and marketing expertise to develop new brands and products as part of the PM FME scheme.
The PM FME scheme has adopted the One District One Product (ODOP) concept to focus on developing specific product categories for each district in India.
Millets constitute the ODOP category for the Thane district of Maharashtra. Somdana is the brand created by Nafed for MoFPI under the PM FME scheme for developing and marketing millet-based products from Thane.
Finger Millet, commonly known as Ragi, has been widely cultivated in India for nearly five millennia. Ragi is a rich source of protein, carbohydrates, dietary fibres, vital minerals, and vitamins. Considered a superfood, this gluten-free cereal contains the highest amount of calcium and potassium. Consumption of ragi promotes good health and general well-being.
Ragi Atta
Somdana Ragi Atta is a premium quality product made by processing and grinding choicest ragi grains. The versatile atta can be used for making a variety of snacks, bakery items, savoury dishes, and desserts. Ragi atta is associated with myriad health benefits like weight management, strengthening of the digestive system, and resolution of lifestyle related disorders.
Ragi Cookies

Our MFPE Partners
Somdana ODOP products (Ragi Atta and Ragi Cookies) are manufactured in MFPEs located in the Thane district of Maharashtra. Choicest ingredients are directly procured from the farmers and processed by local MFPEs. It enables them to better their income and generate more employment. It therefore becomes instrumental in helping realise our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Nafed focuses on creating and marketing premium quality products that promote health and holistic wellness.
The following MFPEs, located in Thane district, were selected for manufacturing Somdana products under the ODOP initiative. This initiative is generating greater business opportunities for the micro enterprises and providing them a much-needed access to the national market.
Located in Thane district of Maharashtra, Grassroot Nutrition Pvt. Ltd. was founded in 2018 by Ms Manjiri Chunekar. In addition to manufacturing the ODOP Somdana product range, the micro enterprise is engaged in processing and manufacturing a wide variety of herbal and health food products, as well as health drinks. The company also manufactures stevia-based items such as stevia powder and dried stevia leaves.
Ms. Damyanti Utekar established Homemade Chakki Atta in Thane in 2017. In addition to manufacturing the ODOP Somdana product range, the micro enterprise has created a market presence by milling and retailing several types of grains and a variety of spices.
Shraddha Gruh Udhyog, a micro enterprise located in Thane was founded by Ms Shraddha Ambavane in 2008. In addition to manufacturing the ODOP Somdana product range, the company produces a varied range of premium quality products such as baby foods, healthy cereals, spices, and ragi-based products.
Founded in the year 2020 by Ms Shiny Solanki, Mom's Magical Cookies is famed its assortment of high-quality baked items. In addition to manufacturing the ODOP Somdana product range, the company is engaged in baking a variety of cakes, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, cheesecakes, and so on.
Ms. Manasi Waghmare founded Felisitaz Enterprise, a bakery and confectionary company, in 2017 with the idea of tapping the potential of the bakery products industry. In addition to manufacturing the ODOP Somdana product range, the company produces a range of high-quality bakery items ranging from cookies to chocolates to cakes.
